“Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scriptures, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed – keep that dusted off and in use. Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.” (1 Timothy 4:11-16 – from THE MESSAGE)
April sure starts off with a bang! EASTER SUNDAY IS APRIL 1ST! It is very rare to start a month off on such a powerful day! So where does the resurrected Lord lead us as we journey through the rest of the month? I believe the apostle Paul’s words to a young Timothy speak to us for April 2018!
We begin with RESURRECTION – the powerful gift of forgiveness and eternal life from Jesus! On April 8th we come to the Lord’s Table to remember once again what he has done out of love for us. On this Sunday we will focus in on a Vision of what the Lord would have us do with the Easter story. Where should the church be going? Paul encourages Timothy to cultivate the scripture and to make the story come to life for the church. That’s what we’ll do on the 8th!
On the 15th we celebrate the past with our 35th Anniversary as a congregation. Carson Rhyne will be returning to bring the message. We treasure our past as it builds our future! Paul reminded Timothy how past leaders had laid hands on him that the WITNESS of Jesus would carry on in the church for all time to come! Celebrating our past is a reminder that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. That’s what we’ll do on the 15th!
On the 22nd we walk with Jesus through the storms of life. Building on the anniversary celebration and remembering past storms – we know that storms will always come at us in the Journey – both as a church and as disciples. Isn’t is great to know that we are never alone in the storms of life! Paul tells Timothy not to let anyone get to him just because he is young! I’m sure that caused Timothy some turmoil – but he was to show in his life the love, faith and integrity that only Jesus could give! That’s what we’ll do on the 22nd!
On the 29th we will celebrate Youth Sunday – and the young people of Summit will show us that not only are they the future – but they are an important part of Summit’s ministry RIGHT NOW! Like Paul said to Timothy, ‘you will see them mature right before your eyes!’ Time flies by! That’s what we’ll do on the 29th1
Here’s the kicker though – we will be celebrating EASTER on every Sunday in April – not just the 1st! Why? Because you and I are EASTER PEOPLE! It’s in our blood – or should I say, it’s in Jesus’ blood! Every Sunday – Everyday – WE ARE EASTER PEOPLE!
See you in Church!
In Jesus Love – Dan
